It’s not about the pose!

Sometime yoga can feel intimidating.

You think it means you have to put your leg behind your head or do the splits or just wrap yourself up like a pretzel in general.  Yoga is a beautiful and specatacular practice. And I think it is so cool that we can move and put our bodies in these different poses…however…

Just because you are doing some crazy arm balance or are doing a handstand doesn’t necessarily mean you are doing yoga.

If you are not paying attention to what you are doing & how you are feeling, if your are straining or hurting your body, if you are thinking about how you look in class, you are not really practicing yoga.  Yoga is about the effort, but by effort I don’t mean trying really hard.  I just mean trying.

If you are showing up, paying attention and breathing…

then you are doing yoga.
